Ukrainian Orphan Camp Abkhazia 2021

“The rehabilitation vacation for our young children was very eventful. It should be noted that a civil war has been going on in the South-East of Ukraine for almost seven years. And in the group of children who were visiting us there were orphans of the same age as this war, who in their entire young life had never seen peaceful days, constantly living and hiding from shell explosions in the basements of multi-story buildings …  “ (Bishop Ivan, 2021)

“Orphan Andrey from Donetsk is 12 years old. Pastor of the Church in Gudauta Roman Pogonets blessed the young man and presented a large cake on behalf of the Abkhaz Christians with the inscription: “Happy birthday, Andrei!”. All Ukrainian children were eagerly awaiting treats from the birthday boy. Andrei, like many teenagers of his age, was a little atheist. His beliefs were confirmed in connection with the loss of all his relatives and homes from the explosions of shells. But on his birthday, Andrei, for the first time in his life, in tears of gratitude, prayed to God for the life he had saved , for the love of Christians, which allowed him for the first time to see the beauty of the warm sea created by the Almighty Lord, the Caucasus Mountains with snow-capped peaks, for an organized trip, as he said in his prayer : “..From the hell of war to the wonderful paradise of Abkhazia …” Andrey cried for a long time, and tears fell profusely right into his cup of tea …” (Bishop Ivan, 2021)
